Welcome to our English-speaking Church in Quito

Advent St Nicholas was formed by the merger of Advent Lutheran and St Nicholas Episcopal. We are an English Speaking Church in Quito. Our International Liturgical Congregation seeks to meet the need for worship and community of an ecumenical multi denominational group of people.

Our congregation is part of a ministry of expatriates living in Ecuador which began in the mid 1950s. With the help of the Lutheran World Federation, a group of Germans, Swiss, Scandinavians and Ecuadorians established the Advent Lutheran Church of Ecuador with worship in the German language. The first English services were held in the same church building in 1958. The English-speaking church Advent St Nicholas still shares the church building with the German speaking and the Spanish speaking congregation. Together with them we form IELE, the Iglesia Evangélica Luterana del Ecuador.

We are a place of worship, fellowship, service and teaching in the Christian faith. You are welcome here! All English-speakers are welcome anytime, no formal membership is required. If you decide to become an ongoing participant in our community, we welcome you to become a member and support our work.

Our English-speaking church in Quito is based on community participation and leadership.

Advent – St. Nicholas

Worship

We usually worship every Sunday at 9 am. On each First and Third Sunday of the month worship is led by an ordained minister, and we celebrate Communion. On the Second, Fourth and Fifth Sunday we are led in a Morning Worship Service by members of our community. All are welcome!

Model of Ministry

Advent – St. Nicholas’ model of ministry emphasizes increased lay participation and leadership. Our members serve in various functions during the worship services and also form the pastoral care team and support our social ministries. The Pastoral Coordinator and Deacon support the lay leaders.

Our Services

As an international community in Quito, we worship together, enjoy fellowship, and celebrate the important holidays throughout the year. We can arrange weddings, baptisms, and funerals. Our members and Pastoral Coordinator offer pastoral care and spiritual support. We offer a program for Children’s Education (Sunday School).
