«LAS OTRAS OVEJAS»

WHO WE ARE

We are an initiative of Christian men and women who are active members of the different congregations that comprise the IELE, and we invite participation by others who share our goals. We particularly welcome persons who have not felt welcome in other churches they have attended.

We are Christian, ecumenical and inclusive:

Christian, because our fundamental spiritual base is Scripture, the Old Testament as well as the New.

Ecumenical, because we are open to all the ways people approach the spiritual dimension of life.

Inclusive, because we oppose all types of discrimination, including discrimination because of sexual orientation.

We are activists, active and spiritual; we support all social struggles that seek the well-being of men and women.

OBJECTIVES / MISSION

The mission of «Las Otras Ovejas»is to promote multicultural ministries, primarily with sexual minorities.

We aspire to be a spiritually liberated group that celebrates faith, practices prayer, undertakes disciplined reflection, and lives in communion with our respective congregations and the Church as a whole.

We are a group that promotes and defends human rights.

We support the rights of women and the access by youth to information about birth control.

We seek to convey a message of respect, inclusion, tolerance of diversity, and personal transformation, and we are open to understanding new Gospel messages that respond to today’s needs.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES THAT WE WANT TO PROMOTE

We meet with everyone who supports our liberating mission and wants to celebrate their faith, including gays, bisexuals, lesbians, and transsexuals, as well as everyone who is open to dialogue with others, without restriction.

We encourage prayer and participation in the regular services of the church.

We promote community service and encourage working with civic and social action groups.

We organize workshops that address problems relating to violence, women and youth, sexuality and reproductive rights, Biblical studies, HIV/AIDS, poverty, the environment, justice, and peace.
